Synopsis
The film, which has grown from LET’S TALK, a 4-year project looking into youth violence and knife crime by listening to young people, tells the story of how three young Black boys from Southwark turn their lives around, from the edge of permanent school exclusion to training Met Police recruits in Stop & Search. Oh, and winning awards. Some of the testimony is truly shocking – prevalence of knife carrying, lack of self worth, absence of empathy, turning to the ‘street’ for answers – and yet there is a sense of change in the air.
When a child at a local primary school says to you: “Why isn’t it safe to be a child here in Southwark?”, you pay attention and think hard. As barrister Stephen Akinsanya remarks, “We can all do something.”
Where to start? – change of thought.
